De Lorenzo S.r.l.

THE HISTORY

The company De Lorenzo is established in 1951 by Ugo De Lorenzo. Its first field of activity is the import and sale of electronic instrumentation to industry and schools.

Between 1951 and 1960, De Lorenzo widens its range of products by becoming representative for few important companies of this field, such as the Danish Radiomeiter and Disa, manufacturers of electronic and electro-medical instrumentation. These are years of great boost to modernization (we find in the market the first transistors and the first semiconductors). De Lorenzo starts to sell electrotechnics and electronics products.

Around 1960 De Lorenzo realizes that the world of education is asking for equipment and instrumentation specifically designed for the educational environment. The few Technical Schools of that time are quivering for the great potentialities in the field of electronics. The first order comes from a Salesian School for the supply of a laboratory bench fully equipped with all the necessary power supplies for the connection of the external instrumentation (generators, oscilloscopes, etc.).

In 1963-1964 we have an important turn in the history of De Lorenzo, that offers its benches to the most reputable Italian schools and receives in return new orders. This is the start for the production of a series of equipment specifically designed for education.

From 1965 to 1970 De Lorenzo significantly increases the number of employees, thanks to an important contract for the supply of 14 laboratories to Mexico. In 1966 De Lorenzo offers the first complete laboratory for electrotechnics: benches, power supplies, groups of machines and other accessories. In 1968, De Lorenzo takes part in a big exhibition for electronic equipment in Mexico; all the professors attend the exhibition. Then, De Lorenzo starts to install the laboratories.

One year later, in 1969, the European Enterprise Development, an international company whose purpose was to invest in advanced technology companies, gets a participation in De Lorenzo.

In 1971, to react to future expansion requirements, E.E.D. assumes the full control of the company.

In 1972 E.E.D. creates in Luxembourg the European Educational Enterprises (3E), whose objective is the world market of technical and vocational training: De Lorenzo is part of the 3E group.

In the following years the 3E group acquires other European companies that are already active in the sale of educational equipment: Armfield from UK, Terco from Sweden and Matlabo (today Jeulin) from France.
The 3E groups operates major investments, re-organize the production and promotes the design and realization of new products. In those years, after a study on the impact of the use of colors on the end users, De Lorenzo passes from the gray to the current yellow, traditionally linked to the electricity field. New lines for the modules and for the furniture are drawn by a designer.
From the commercial point of view, the 3E group concentrates in Paris some of the managers of each company to co-ordinate the activities related to marketing and commercial penetration in the whole world on behalf of the companies of the group. Although this was a good and innovative strategy, the 3E group does not obtain the expected results, due to some management mistakes. Consequently, the Banque de Paris et des Pays Bas, main supporter of the 3E group, decides to offer to some of its most expert managers the possibility to buy each one of the three companies.
In April 1979 Mr. Luciano Prosperi acquires 30% of De Lorenzo.
The 1st of January, 1980 Mr. Luciano Prosperi becomes 100% owner of the Company.
From there on, thanks to huge organization and management efforts, De Lorenzo gains the domestic market and then starts to expand abroad in all the regions of the world.

Since 1980, De Lorenzo has established other independent companies, which are all linked by a common goal and managed by the same strategy; today, we can say that the De Lorenzo Group is one of the most important industrial and commercial realities in the field of technical and vocational training.
