What is the structured cabling ?

Nowadays the transmission of different nature inside the buildings assumes a considerable importance and, as a consequence, some modalities and rules have been developed for the optimal solution of this problem.
The cabling of a building is a whole of laying passive components :
 cables
 connectors
 sockets
 etc.
suitably installed and set so that is possible to interconnect some active equipments: computers, telephones, printers, monitors, .. .
The cabling has to integrate in a single structure the following services :

 Presence detection access check
 Voice
 Closed circuit TV
 Safety

Elements composing a cabling

By referring to the figure which shows the the cabling of a building, relatively to a local network, the elements composing a cabling are:
Transmission media (copper cables and fiber optics)
Exchanges structures
Connectors, plugs and sockets
Adapters
Equipments of electrical protection
Support materials (cassettes, raceways, cabinets, ..)
